De-icing salt, packed
K+S road rock salt is used by municipal services and road-maintenance operators as a de-icing material. Available in 12.5 kg and 25 kg PE bags and 1,000 kg big bags.
The main goal of winter maintenance of highways and streets is to prevent ice formation on roads. The primary operation in mechanised winter maintenance is treating the carriageway with de-icing materials. Road salt is used to combat ice, snow and road icing, and to manufacture de-icing agents.
K+S road rock salt is a pure white product; some grey or black mineral particles are permissible. It contains fine and coarser crystals. Fine crystals dissolve immediately, while larger crystals act effectively on thick ice and snow.
The salt formed through natural crystallisation of ocean saltwater in a dry, hot climate. K+S rock-salt deposits are in northern Germany. Salt is mined underground at depths of 400–750 metres.
The rock salt is crushed to grain sizes of 0.2–5.0 mm and contains 70–150 mg/kg of anti-caking additive E535 (Fe(CN)₆).
Municipal services and road-maintenance operators use road rock salt as a de-icing material. Road salt, also known as technical salt, is a widely used, low-cost way to combat icy conditions.
