Dead sea salt
Dead Sea salt contains 26 essential minerals and trace elements, including magnesium, sodium, calcium, potassium, bromine, iron, sulphur, fluorine, manganese, selenium and iodine.
Dead Sea water contains 29% salt, compared with 4% in ocean water. Its considerably higher density allows people to float easily on the surface. Its mineral composition also differs from ocean water: only 12–18% of Dead Sea salt is sodium chloride.
Description
Dead Sea salts mainly consist of 26 essential minerals and trace elements, including magnesium, sodium, calcium, potassium, bromine, iron, sulphur, fluorine, manganese, selenium, iodine and other minerals needed by the body.
During hydrotherapy, the high mineral content of these salts has a beneficial effect on metabolism and enables rapid absorption of essential mineral elements. The salts benefit the skin and the body as a whole and have anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory and calming effects. Their minerals have various therapeutic effects:
- Magnesium improves cell vitality, slows skin ageing and relieves stress and tension.
- Potassium balances skin moisture and has an anti-allergic effect.
- Calcium stimulates circulation and strengthens bones and nails.
- Sodium regulates cellular moisture levels.
- Bromine acts as a soothing antiseptic.
Since ancient Egyptian times, different cultures have visited the Dead Sea for therapy and used its salt to manufacture skin ointments, creams and soap, as it is still used today.
Use of these salts helps relieve fatigue, improve vitality and prevent or treat various conditions. Dead Sea salts are used as an anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory and calming agent. Regular salt baths two or three times a week improve the health of the body and act as a mild immune stimulant. The salt is also recommended for children with diathesis and people with pronounced allergic conditions, including bronchial asthma, eczema, urticaria and neurodermatitis.
The salt is used for baths, cold and hot compresses, wraps, inhalations, rinses and cryomassage.
Dead Sea salt in its original form is not suitable for food because its high mineral content, particularly magnesium, gives it a bitter taste.
