K+S reduced-sodium food salt is a mineral salt containing 50% sodium chloride with added potassium, magnesium and calcium.

This salt has a pleasant flavour and does not differ from ordinary salt in taste, saltiness or colour. It is intended for people who care about their health and wish to reduce their salt intake while preserving the taste of food.

Salt is the main source of sodium, a valuable substance that the body needs. Sodium chloride plays an important physiological role in maintaining osmotic balance and in the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. However, a preference for salty foods often leads to sodium intake exceeding the recommended amount. Restricting sodium intake is advised because excess sodium retains water in the body and places a strain on the heart and kidneys, leading to increased blood pressure and swelling. Symptoms of excess sodium include intense thirst, sweating and hyperactivity. At-risk groups include people who are overweight, pregnant women, older adults and people with diabetes.

Using K+S reduced-sodium food salt instead of ordinary salt improves mental and physical performance, substantially reduces excessive sodium intake, helping to lower the risk of hypertension, and enriches the diet with potassium, magnesium and calcium salts needed for normal cardiovascular and nervous system function.

The importance of minerals:

Potassium is needed for the functioning of the heart, nervous system and muscles, for removing excess fluid from the body and for maintaining normal blood pressure.

Magnesium reduces the risk of hypertension and atherosclerosis, is important for maintaining coronary vascular tone and heart rhythm, and helps maintain a strong skeletal structure.

Calcium regulates heartbeat, participates in blood clotting, signals muscles to relax or contract, is involved in cell adhesion and its regulation, participates in digestion, excretion and nervous processes, and influences immunity and the reproductive system.

Applications:

Used in the food industry where a reduced sodium chloride content is required. It can also be used at home for cooking. Using this salt instead of ordinary salt for cooking and seasoning food for the whole family, including children from the early years of life, can help avoid many ailments associated with excessive sodium chloride intake.

Recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women to help prevent swelling; for people with hypertension, diabetes or obesity; for older adults to normalise blood pressure, improve heart and kidney function and reduce body weight; and for children and adults to help prevent the conditions listed above.
